Disney’s Hollywood Studios is Transforming – New Updates

hollywood-studios-drive-entranceBy now you have probably heard of the changes coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. If you haven’t here is what is happening. At the 2015 D23 Expo, Disney Parks announced that two new lands are coming to Hollywood Studios and they are Toy Story Land and Star Wars Land. You can learn more about those by going to our posts on Toy Story Land or Star Wars Land.

Closures

So as you can imagine there is going to be a lot of construction going on at the park. But you may be wondering where these new lands will be going. Well it has been rumored that Toy Story Land will be going behind the Pixar place area of the park where Toy Story Midway Mania is currently. Star Wars Land has been rumored to be taking over the Streets of America part of the park.

As of right now it sounds like these rumors may be true because last month the Disney Parks blog posted that Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show will be closing permanently on April 2, 2016. It was also said that a few areas of the Streets of America will be also closing on April 2 also. The areas that they said will be closing is the Honey I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure, a few shops, the Mike & Sulley meet and greet, and the Studio Catering Co..

New Experiences

StarWarsLand-Launch-BayWith all these closures it is very surprising that this park isn’t closed while construction is going on. But recently they closed the Art of Animation building and changed it to become the Star Wars Launch Bay.

Star Wars Launch Bay is now opened and you can meet Chewbacca and also Kylo Ren. You can also preview things to come in the Star Wars universe, and even see props from the movies. And you can watch Star Wars: Path of the Jedi to hear what has happened in the Star Wars Saga so far. There is also an area to try new Star Wars video games.

Other new things added to the park is the Adventure Happens Here Dance Party, Symphony in the Stars: A Galactic Spectacular, Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple. The Adventure Happens Here Dance Party is located where the sorcerers hat and stage used to be and you can dance with Disney Characters. They even renamed the stage Center Stage. This is a nice addition because you don’t have to see that terrible stage with a cover blocking the view of fireworks, if there were any. Oh wait, now they do. Symphony in the Stars: A Galactic Spectacular is a new firework show set to Star Wars music, even some from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This park has needed fireworks for a while. Recently the Jedi Training Academy was under refurbishment and reopened as Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple. During the refurbishment they re-did the stage a little and made it more permanent by making the stage a little bigger and adding a little more standing room to the area. The show now has a new villain added in addition to Darth Vader.

Now around Center Stage, you can meet your favorite Disney Pals. This past week Disney announced that 2 new character greeting locations will be coming. The first will be located in the Echo Lake area of the park and will be called Celebrity Spotlight. This is a meet and greet area that will feature one of Disney’s new characters, and will change characters from time to time. The first character is Olaf from Frozen. This will open Spring 2016. The other meet and greet, also opening in Spring 2016, is called “Mickey and Minnie Starring in Red Carpet Dreams”. You will be able to meet with Minnie Mouse and Mickey Mouse separately. Mickey will be dressed as Sorcerer Mickey from Fantasia. And Minnie will be dressed as someone from Tinsel Town. This sounds similar to what was set up at the Art of Animation building for a while.hollywood-studios

All these changes will transform this park to something totally different. I can’t wait to see what it will look like completed. This park has been needing some new things for a while. I am happy to see this park change for the better. Because just remember what the main view looked like 4 years ago. I looked like the picture to the left. It looks way better today without that hat! Now if only they could do something to Epcot which also needs major help.
